The Muhlenberg Memories Project

Gideon F. Egner Memorial Chapel

Inspired by the designs of European cathedrals, Egner Chapel is a gem of Gothic architecture, designed by architect Frank Watson.  Commenced in 1929 and dedicated in 1931, this chapel represented the culmination of Muhlenberg’s goal to become a premier Lutheran institution of higher education. It has served students of all denominations through the decades and has been a venue for lectures, concerts and graduation ceremonies.

An Overview of the Chapel by Benjamin Goldberg

Each stained glass window in Egner Chapel and its imagery offers a history note to Muhlenberg’s history. This documentary, however, reveals another story about D’Ascenzo Studios, designers and creators of the beautiful scenery that adorns every wall of the chapel, from the sacristy to the narthex and from the north to the south transept.
